How To Store Your Vintage Items with Store That
Here at Store That, we understand the importance of taking care of any vintage or collector’s items you have tucked away. However, vintage collections can often end up taking up a lot of space, leaving you to turn to a storage unit as a solution. Whether you collect 1970’s clothing or retro comic books, storing these items can be a delicate process. We thought we would offer some handy tips and tricks to help you if you’re looking to store your vintage items with us.
Vintage Clothing
If you’re a collector of vintage clothing you will be fully aware of the precautions you need to take, not only when washing and wearing them, but storing them too. With items that have thin and fragile shoulders, fold them at the waist and store them in air tight boxes. If you put these on hangers on a rail, gravity is likely to take its toll and you will see visible marks where the hanger is. Another great tip is to ensure all your clothes are covered with something, as an added protective layer. This will prevent damage from damp or the change in temperature. It will also keep fabric pests away such as clothes moths, the dreaded enemy of vintage clothes.
Comic Books and Trading Cards
Comic book and trading card collections are extremely popular. These items, if not cared for correctly, can damage easily. The team here at Store That know that even though you may want to keep them at home with you, sometimes, you need extra space, and you will need to move these beloved collections into storage. All comic books and trading cards should be kept in individual sleeves for the best protection. For cards, you should invest in a binder and keep the binders in a box, elevated form the ground. Comic books can be stored in individual sleeves and then placed in specialised comic bookcases to ensure they don’t get dusty or damaged.
Antiques
We have housed our fair share of antiques here at Store That, so we can tell you a thing or two about storing them correctly. Antiques come in all shapes and sizes, but should all be stored with care. For smaller antique items, make sure you wrap them in bubble wrap and delicately place them into boxes to ensure they don’t break. For larger items, keep them elevated with pallets and place breathable sheets over the top of them to avoid suffocating the materials.
