Store That to Skyfall: How Self Storage in Canary Wharf Plays An Important Part In Hollywood Blockbusters
At Store That, we love nothing more than relaxing with a good film after a day of work. When you first think about it, you may not realise just how many film scenes are set in storage units, or what gripping scenes are centered around them. In fact, storage units provide brilliant film locations and being in the city centre, we know just how popular they are.
Self storage units have appeared in hundreds of films. Here, at Store That East London, we’d like to share our stand out storage movie scenes with you!
SKYFALL
A James Bond film without a storage unit is actually extremely uncommon. In the 1977 film, The Spy Who Loved Me, Bond’s Lotus Esprit submarine vehicle was found in storage. In Skyfall, Bond visits his personal storage unit to access his iconic Aston Martin DB5.
We find out that this vehicle was featured in Goldfinger in 1964; meaning the pristine, highly sought-after car was kept safe in storage for 55 years. Even Bond knows that there’s nothing safer than secure sea container storage!
Bond later heads back to his on-site storage facility to retrieve a rather large stash of dynamite and weaponry from the Skyfall estate. Consequently, there is a huge explosion, but of course, Bond comes out on top. Let's hope he got a good deal with his storage provider.
SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
Back in the 90’s Silence of the Lambs featured a self storage facility. In fact, storage plays a fundamental part in the film’s narrative, as an FBI trainee comes face to face with serial killer, Dr Hannibal Lecter.
During the psychological thriller, Lecter instructs his understudy to “look deep inside yourself” while referencing a secure self storage unit that he has rented from fictional operator Your Self. The trainee makes a hair-raising discovery, but we won’t reveal anymore!
Since the 90’s, the rise in storage rentals has certainly increased. Back then, it wasn’t as common to use storage facilities, so maybe we have Silence of the Lambs to thank for its surprising storage feature!
LARRY CROWNE
Much more light-hearted than the other movies on our list is Larry Crowne. Tom Hanks starred in and directed the film and it features a famous scene centred around, you guessed it, self storage. The romantic comedy, also starring Julia Roberts, depicts the story of a middle-aged man who loses his job unexpectedly and decides to go back into education. Although the film isn’t as well known as some of the others we’ve mentioned, it does take our fancy. Julia Roberts’ character takes Hanks to her storage unit so that she can get him some more fashionable clothing to wear. The scene sees the pair arrive at a drive-up storage facility in Los Angeles, on a pair of scooters. How very Hollywood!
If the likes of Daniel Craig, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are investing in self storage, we think you should consider it too! Whatever your storage needs, Store That have many different facilities and are on hand to help you! Contact us or call us on 02075151300 today.
